Hugs and Cushies Slippers

img_0162
These slippers are fun and functional!

I designed these slippers with extra padding on the soles and laces at the top for foot hugging comfort.  Even without the laces they stay snug because of the reverse crocheted top border and the raised back which contours itself to the back of the ankle.  I’ve made in several colors and sizes for Christmas presents this year.

Raised rear of shoe hugs the heel.

I used Red Heart Super Saver Yarn with two strands.  One skein is plenty, just roll another ball of yarn from the skein and carry both strands. If you have the large size skein you will need about 1/2 skein to complete.   I used a Size J  (6.00 mm) hook.  Be sure and check your gauge before beginning the project.  If you use another type of worsted yarn you may need to use another hook size.  I found that black Caron One Pound was a much thicker yarn than the Red Heart and wouldn’t work with the Red Heart Super Saver.  Other Caron yarns aren’t as thick as the black and they worked, so be sure and check the gauge with the yarn you intend to use.

These instructions are available in small, medium and large sizes to download on dropbox.

Hugs and Cushion Slippers

Materials:
Main Color: 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver, 7 oz size
Contrasting Color: 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver 7 oz size in contrasting color.
Roll another ball of each color and carry two strands throughout.
Size J, 6.00 mm hook or hook needed for gauge.

Gauge: 12 sc stitches = 4”
8 sc rows = 4”

  1. It helps to keep track of the center back of slipper. Do this by placing a marker at the beginning of each row at the top of beginning ch 2, or ch 3 as shown in photo below.
  2. The row count can be a little confusing. The first stitch to count is the sc or dc at the beginning of each row NOT the ch 2 or ch 3 where you put marker. The last stitch to count is the sc or dc at the end of the row NOT the ch 2 or ch 3 where you put marker. If you like to count the links between each stitch instead of the actual stitch, count only the links before each stitch, but NOT the link between the last sc or dc and the beginning ch 2 or ch 3. So… the beginning ch 2 or ch 3 is the center back but isn’t considered a stitch to count on the row count.
  3. The slipper is worked in the round. In the first row you work down one side of the beginning chain row, dc 6 at the end of the row and then work back up the back side of the beginning chain. This creates the oval shape for the sole of the slipper.
  4. Its important to count at the end of each row. The row count is given in at the end of each row.
