Its Willamette! Dammit!

We met up with our friends Paul and Judy in Florence, Oregon right after Labor Day and spent a couple of days on the coast, then drove east to Casey’s RV Park in Westfir, Oregon.

Good friend that she is, Judy knows my love of plants and located this tiny preserve where the carnivorous plant Darlingtonia californica is protected.

Westfir is close to the border of the Willamette National Forest.  There’s only one way I seem to remember how to pronounce Willamette.  I have to say Wa-lam-it rhymes with Dammit, thus the title of this page.

The area has many waterfalls, lakes, creeks and rivers.  Because it was so late in the year we only searched out two of the larger falls,  Salt Creek and Salmon Creek Falls.

Had lunch here after leaving Salt Creek Falls. We followed Salt Creek up to Blair Lake on a long, winding gravel road.

This is Misha who stays here 4 months a year, scanning the mountains for smoke.  Beautiful and Brave!  If she likes you, she will invite you up into the tower, where she lives and works.

Huckleberry Lookout is hidden by the trees. You park and walk up this hill to reach the building.

This lookout is also “manned” by a female. She leaves at 5:00 each night though to go home to her family.

There’s beauty in nature but none that compares to the beauty of our spending time with loved ones.
