“Where flowers bloom so does hope.”
– Lady Bird Johnson
We’re in the little town of Fortuna, which is about 15 minutes south of Eureka, California. We’ve only been here for a week and have tried to pack a lot in during that time. I’ve been trying to download the pics for this journal page for about 5 hours, it’s 10:45 pm and we are leaving tomorrow morning for Crescent City, California which is a 2-3 hour drive. So…..this page is photos only and I hope they speak for themselves. I love this lifestyle but I miss my high speed internet and my garden. The gardens I’ve photographed here are something to strive for in my future.
We hiked the Humboldt Botanical Gardens. This is not a place for people not prepared to exert themselves. Its unique in that it preserves the flavor of Humboldt County which is never stuffy, never conforming and always as close to the original, natural state of things as possible.
This path is designed for meditation. If you walk the entire way up and back you will cover a half mile.
The area is known for its dairy cows and the Loleta Cheese Factory has an amazing array of cheeses (I tasted every one), as well as a stunning garden in the rear.
And lastly, Gils by the Bay. A great little seafood place, with seating in the garden and bird feeders everywhere.
Claude Monet once said, “I must have flowers, always, and always.” and to that I say, Amen.
