This journal page is going to be mainly photos. When we were staying at Steinaker State Park in Utah we decided to take an afternoon and visit the Flaming Gorge National Recreational Area. We didn’t know what to expect, but found a place that we hope to return to. We like to dry camp sometimes and this would be an ideal place to spend a couple of weeks just soaking up the world that is Utah, it could actually be the planet that is Utah, for that is how different Utah is from anywhere else in the world
After leaving the Red Canyon Overlook where there is a Visitor’s Center that was closed for the season and a Lodge we starting exploring.
Big Horn Sheep
For years we’ve hoped to spot some Big Horn Sheep. On this day we were lucky. First we spotted some females eating with the cows on a ranch.
Late in the afternoon we couldn’t believe that three males were munching along side the road. We stopped the car and I opened the door and stood on the running board to get some shots.
I realized I’d caught the eye of Old Number 25, so I took my last shot and closed the car door!
We headed back to the Visitor Center area to get pics of the sunset.
Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capital Reef and the other parks should be seen by all Americans. Flaming Gorge seems to be a bit of a secret, maybe Utah wants it that way.
