Silver City, Idaho

The Road into Silver City, ID

When visiting Craters of the Moon National Monument in Idaho we took a few days extra to explore some of the 4 wheel drive roads.  Silver City is a few hours drive out of Arco, Idaho where we were camping.  Its billed as a Ghost Town, but there are still people living there and the buildings are privately owned.  Many have been handed down generation to generation.  We’ve visited Bodie, CA, which is located in the eastern Sierra Nevada.  Bodie is the  ultimate Ghost Town so Silver City was a bit of a letdown.  Bodie can be crowded but we visited there in July once and it was snowing.  We were the only people crazy enough to travel up that horrible road and it was wonderful!  But, I regress.

Silver City had its peak in the 1880’s.  Both gold and silver were mined here.

Winters are brutal here. The outhouse is pretty close to the house

I like this upper story door. This was probably a store where the owner lived upstairs
